THE FALL OF THE GODS (traduzione in calce)
The uncertain social climate in Greece is a testimony to the failure of the political establishment in protecting and preserving the national interests of European nation states such as Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal. As the Euro dies, so will be this distorted dream called the EU, a dream born and pursued by forces who are strangers to the real needs of the European citizens. From now on, no matter what these forces will try to do to save the unsalvageable, their efforts are destined to fail because their original vision was a failure. The sooner the Euro is discarded into the trash bin of history, the better, and so I hope it will be for the EU as well.
While economists, politicians, professors, businessmen and regular citizens argue and debate about the destiny of the euro, of Greece, and of the whole European Union, and on what the results of a partial or complete collapse of the EU may bring, the domino effect has already started and we can make an attempt to analyze it.
The vote in Greece has accelerated the chaos. Instead of easing fears, it has brought new worries and, according to some, the ghost of a past that should have been forgotten has reappeared from the darkness. The affirmation of political entities of the extreme left and extreme right in Greece is seen as a negative outcome, a distortion, born from the tumultuous current economic crisis. I see it, instead, as a positive step toward breaking the chain from a political system that over the years has reduced the differences between the left and the right and eliminated the advantages of a dynamic multi-polarism, particularly in many western countries. A real democracy should be able to confront the extreme factions, manage and manipulate the conflict, no matter what their ideologies are. Ideologies have a positive role of keeping the political discourse alive and give voice to all the citizens, no matter what the differences are. The people that are beating the drums of terror claiming that these extreme parties are not worthy of a voice or existence because they “do not represent democracy,” are the same people that have over the years further helped to create the current political structure that has become, ironically, the assassin of the same “democracy” they claim to be protecting.
As many times before in history, no matter how hard the oligarchs try to control them, it will be up to the people themselves to decide their destiny, and the votes for parties such Syriza and Golden Down in Greece are one of these example. I sense that in the next few years, we will see impressive transformations in the western world, changes I hope to witness in my life time, a real chance to revolutionize our weak and decadent society. The battle for the changes will be conducted in the political and financial arenas. These battles have already started; a prelude to a cultural war that is looming just behind the corner.
In some parts of Greece, the euro is already dead, but no one has bothered to inform Mister Draghi, Monti, Barroso, Ms. Merkel and puppet Hollande, the new servitor of Obama, that the people of Volos, a small coastal town north of Athens, have already disposed of the Euro. They have created an alternative currency called TEM (Local Alternative Unit, in Greek). TEM is a bartering system, born from an initiative of Theodoros Mavridis and Yiannis Grigoriou. One unit of TEM is equal to one euro, and is organized on line with over one thousand members’ already participating in this network. People sign up online and get access to a database. TEM can be used to exchange good and services. People have different skills and services to offer. The more people embrace the concept of TEM, the less credibility the Euro has, and consequently, the less chances the Euro will have to survive. Imagine a world where banks are replaced by an internet database serving as a forum for virtual transactions, without the middle man and the fiat currency is replaced by local forms of goods exchange or better yet, people currency (http://www.tem-magnisia.gr/index.php); a virtual reality which would give us a good idea of the level of confidence in the current financial and monetary institutions.
Greece is not the only place where there is an attempt to walk away from banks and their fiat currency. Initiatives to regain some kind of local monetary control over the grip of the banks and technocrats are in full swing in many places of the world. In England, use of the Brixton Pound is spreading in the suburbs of London. Brixton is one of the poorest neighborhoods in London. For the moment, the Brixton Pound (http://brixtonpound.org/) is just complementary to the traditional pound, but this currency, which was created in 2009, is best suited to be spent in the area of one’s residence, using it in the local businesses which have signed onto and accept the alternate currency. So far, more than 300 businesses have taken part in this project.
In the Bavaria region of Germany, the Chiemgauer (http://www.chiemgauer.info/), has been in place since 2003. Chiemgauer notes are offered in place of the Euro. Similar initiatives are taking place in the USA, Canada and other countries.
Some may ask, “And in Italy?” We were actually one of the first to attempt an experiment with an alternative currency. You may be familiar with the SIMEC (SIMbolo EConometrico di valore indotto) (http://www.simec.org/index.php), a project born from the mind of the now departed Professor Giacinto Auriti. In the summer of 2000, in his native town of Guardiagrele, Professor Auriti introduced the SIMEC. Auriti spent a fortune of his own to print and introduce the SIMEC. The experiment saw the participation of over 40 local shops, and was considered a success even though faced with increased pressure from the other non-participating merchants (who saw their businesses decline), the mayor and the Bank of Italy, and eventually landed scores of Guardia di Finanza in Guardiagrele.
In that year, when asked about the upcoming introduction of the Euro, Auriti told the press that “a storm was coming”. Auriti did not have much trust in the Central banks and stated that the Euro would have turned Europeans into monetary slaves. He believed that the SIMEC would have helped Italians survive the upcoming storm.
The concept is simple: With nominal money, the bearer had become the debtor and the banks the owner. In one of the scripts, Auriti wrote that, “Through the substitution of ‘nominal money’ for gold money, we have not only a change in the material structure of the symbol, but also a profound legal change. The people have been transformed from owners of money to debtors. The anguish of the inevitable insolvency which this causes can easily explode into a social crisis… This is the reason why the noblest concept of ‘democracy,’ which means sovereignty of the people, has been, improperly, supplanted by ‘usurocracy,’ which is the hegemony of the ‘great usury,’ under which the people are, only, cows to be milked. This great, cultural fraud, which has plagued nations, during the last three centuries, has been possible because the heads of the banking system have understood that value is not a property of material, but an expectation or forecast, i.e. a dimension of time. The heads of the central banks became, in this way, the owners of the world: the supreme puppet-masters of history. “
I read that the Five-Star Movement has already proposed a local currency in Parma. The idea is good, but as you see, it’s hardly original. It’s easy to say, let’s have the currency of the people now that the failure of the Euro is evident, and another matter having sounded the alarm bells 12 years ago, like professor Auriti did, at a time when most of the people were on board the EU wagon and accused Auriti of a conspiracy theory.
It is, however, a local solution, meaning that it is still vaguely defensive and diminutive if it does not enter into a broader discourse of national sovereignty. Despite the momentum of spontaneity, there has to be a follow up with the creation of sovereign institutions, otherwise it will end with the rapid dissolution of these other impulsive initiatives and the preclusion of further “revolutionary” attempts, like experience has taught us in Guardiagrele. The same system of “seigniorage,” denounced by Auriti, is a simple aspect, perhaps not even the most important, of the exercise of the power of dominant groups and the various conflicts that cross them.
I must to give some credit to Grillo and his movement for bringing up certain political themes, but I have some major reservations, not for his clownish attitude like most people tend to describe him, but rather for his real self-described anti-establishment stance. I remember when he was going around Italy with his shows expressing his admiration for MoveOn.org (http://front.moveon.org/). If you do not know who moveon.org is, according to Sourcewatch, MoveOn.org is”…a web-based liberal advocacy organization that raises tens of millions of dollars for Democratic Party politicians and causes from the millions of people on its e-mail list. MoveOn funds or sponsors with other liberal advocacy organizations various coalitions such as Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI), SavetheInternet.com Coalition, and Win Without War. It endorsed Barack Obama in the 2008 Democratic Party primaries, fundraised and organized for him, and has become perhaps the lead lobby organization for his policies in 2009, apart from Obama’s own Organizing for America. Not to mention that the major figure behind moveon.org is non-other than George Soros, the financial creator and motivator of this organization. I do not want to go into conspiracy theories and discuss Grillo’s standing with Soros or Obama, if there is any, but are all of you absolutely certain that Grillo cannot be manipulated? You can make your own conclusions…
What is going on in Greece and in other places in the world where small communities are struggling to regain control of an essential right, people currency not bank monies, is the sign, still limited and circumscribed, that is perhaps the silver lining that the European monetary and economic crisis has brought us. When people start to rise up, inevitably the gods are destined to fall. Let’s hope sooner rather than later.
LA CADUTA DEGLI DEI
Il clima di incertezza sociale in Grecia è una testimonianza del fallimento della classe politica nel proteggere e preservare l’interesse nazionale degli Stati europei come Grecia, Italia, Spagna e Portogallo. Mentre muore l’euro, così a questo si ridurrà il sogno distorto chiamato Unione Europea, un sogno nato e voluto da forze completamente estranee alle esigenze reali dei cittadini europei. D’ora in poi non importa ciò che queste forze cercheranno di inventarsi per salvare l’insalvabile; i loro sforzi sono destinati a fallire, perché la loro stessa visione originaria era un fallimento. Quanto prima l’euro verrà buttato nel cestino della storia, meglio sarà e così spero anche per l’ Unione Europea.
Mentre gli economisti, i politici, i professori e i cittadini comuni discutono e si confrontano sul destino dell’euro, della Grecia, di tutta l’Unione Europea e sulle conseguenze che un’eventuale collasso (parziale o completo) della UE può portare, l’effetto domino è già iniziato e possiamo quindi fare un tentativo di analizzarlo.
Il voto in Grecia ha accelerato il caos; invece di chiarire la situazione attuale e futura ha partorito nuove preoccupazioni e, secondo alcuni, i fantasmi di un passato che avrebbe dovuto essere dimenticato ma che è ricomparso dal buio. L’affermazione di soggetti politici di estrema destra ed estrema sinistra, in Grecia, è vista come un esito negativo, una distorsione, nata dai tumulti della crisi economica. Io invece lo vedo come un passo positivo verso la rottura della catena di un sistema politico che ha, nel corso degli anni, livellato le differenze ed eliminato un multipolarismo dinamico che era particolarmente presente nella vita politica di molti paesi occidentali. Una democrazia reale dovrebbe essere in grado di gestire e manipolare il conflitto, di confrontarsi con le fazioni estreme, non importa quale siano le loro ideologie, ideologie che hanno il ruolo positivo di mantenere il discorso politico vivo e dare voce a tutti i cittadini, indipendentemente da quale siano le differenze. Le persone che si strappano i capelli, sostenendo che questi partiti estremi non sono degni di voce o di esistenza perché “non rappresentano la democrazia”, sono le stesse persone che hanno nel corso degli anni contribuito ulteriormente alla creazione della attuale struttura politica che è diventata, per ironia della sorte, il carnefice della stessa “democrazia” che sostengono di proteggere.
Come molte volte in precedenza, nella storia, non importa quanto duramente gli oligarchi cerchino di tenerli sotto controllo, spetterà ai cittadini stessi decidere del loro destino e i voti andati a partiti come SYRIZA e Alba Dorata in Grecia è uno di questi esempi. Nei prossimi anni dovremmo assistere a cambiamenti epocali nel nostro mondo occidentale, con la speranza di esserne testimone nell’arco della mia esistenza. Penso avremo la reale possibilità di rivoluzionare la nostra società confusa e decadente. La battaglia dei cambiamenti sarà condotta nelle arene politiche e finanziarie. Queste battaglie sono già iniziate, preludio di una guerra culturale che si profila dietro l’angolo.
Nel frattempo, in alcune parti della Grecia, l’euro è già morto, ma nessuno si è preoccupato di informare il signor Draghi, la Merkel, Monti, Barroso e Hollande (il nuovo fantoccio e servitore di Obama), che il popolo di Volos, una piccola città costiera a nord di Atene, è già andato oltre l’Euro. A Valos, hanno creato una moneta alternativa denominata TEM (Unità Locale Alternativa, in greco). TEM è un sistema di baratto, nato da un’iniziativa di Theodoros Mavridis e Yiannis Grigoriou. Una unità di TEM è pari ad un euro, ed è organizzato on line, con oltre un migliaio di soci che già partecipano a questa rete. Le persone si iscrivono online e accedono a un database. TEM può essere utilizzata per scambiare beni e servizi. Le persone hanno diverse competenze e servizi da offrire e più persone abbracciano il concetto di TEM, più la credibilità dell’euro è erosa. Immaginate un mondo in cui le banche sono sostituite da un database in rete che serve come forma di transazione virtuale senza l’uomo medio e la moneta nominale proprietà delle banche, sostituite da forme locali di scambio di buoni o valuta fra cittadini stessi (http://www.tem-magnisia.gr/index.php). Una realtà virtuale ma che renderebbe bene lo stato d’animo e il livello di fiducia verso le attuali istituzioni finanziarie e monetarie.
La Grecia non è l’unico posto dove c’è in atto un tentativo di aggirare le banche e la loro moneta. Le iniziative per rimpossessarsi di un qualche tipo di controllo monetario locale, contro le banche e i tecnocrati sono in atto in molti luoghi del mondo. In Inghilterra, la Sterlina Brixton si sta diffondendo nei sobborghi di Londra. Per il momento la Brixton Pound (http://brixtonpound.org/ ), Brixton è uno dei più poveri quartieri di Londra, è solo complementare alla moneta tradizionale, ma questa moneta creata nel 2009, è adatta per essere meglio spesa nella zona della propria residenza, utilizzandola nei luoghi che espongono il simbolo della Sterlina Brixton. Finora più di 300 esercizi commerciali hanno aderito a questo progetto.
In Germania, nella regione della Baviera, il Chiemgauer (http://www.chiemgauer.info/ ) è stato introdotto nel 2003. Molti Chiemgauer sono offerti al posto dell’euro. Analoghe iniziative si stanno svolgendo in USA, Canada e altri paesi.
Alcuni possono chiedere: ma in Italia? Siamo stati in realtà uno dei primi a tentare un esperimento con una moneta alternativa. Alcuni di voi dovrebbero avere familiarità con il SIMEC (Simbolo Valore EConometrico di indotto) (http://www.simec.org/index.php ). Un progetto nato dalla mente dell’ ormai defunto Porfessore Giacinto Auriti. Nell’estate 2000, in Guardiagrele, sua città natale, il professore Auriti introdusse il SIMEC. L’esperimento ha visto la partecipazione di oltre 40 negozi, anche se sotto la pressione dei mercanti non-partecipanti all’iniziativa (che hanno visto un calo negli affari), il sindaco e la Banca d’Italia, alla fine si è riversato un fiume di Finanzieri su Guardiagrele.
Quell’anno Auriti aveva dichiarato alla stampa, quando gli veniva chiesto della prossima introduzione dell’euro, che “è una tempesta pronta a scatenarsi“. Auriti mancava di fiducia verso le banche centrali, accusate da lui di usura e dichiarò che l’euro avrebbe trasformato in schiavi monetari tutta l’Europa. Auriti credeva che SIMEC avrebbe aiutato gli italiani a sopravvivere alla tempesta imminente.
Il concetto è semplice; con la moneta nominale il portatore era diventato il debitore e le banche il proprietario. In uno dei suoi pezzi, Auriti ha scritto che “Attraverso il passaggio dalla moneta oro alla moneta nominale, abbiamo non solo un cambiamento nella struttura materiale del simbolo, ma anche un profondo cambiamento giuridico. Le persone sono state trasformate da proprietari di denaro a debitori. L’angoscia di insolvenza inevitabile che ciò comporta può facilmente esplodere in una crisi sociale … Questa è la ragione per cui il nobile concetto di “democrazia”, il che significa sovranità del popolo, è stato, impropriamente, soppiantato da “usurocrazia” che è l’egemonia del “grande usura”, in base al quale le persone sono, solo, le vacche da mungere. Questa grande frode culturale che ha afflitto le nazioni nel corso degli ultimi tre secoli, è stata possibile perché i capi del sistema bancario hanno capito che il valore non è una proprietà del materiale, ma un’aspettativa o previsione, vale a dire una dimensione del tempo . I capi delle banche centrali sono diventati, in questo modo, i padroni del mondo: I supremi burattinai della storia. “
Ho letto che il movimento 5 stelle proporrà una moneta locale a Parma. L’idea è buona, ma come si vede non del tutto originale. E facile dire che bisogna coniare la moneta del popolo, ora che il fallimento dell’euro è evidente; altra questione è aver suonato il campanello d’allarme, 12 anni fa, come il professor Auriti ha fatto, in un momento in cui la maggior parte delle persone erano a bordo del carro Euro/UE.
Punto a precisare che si tratta, tuttavia, di soluzioni localistiche, difensive e dal significato vagamente retrivo se non inserite in un discorso di sovranità nazionale; non ostante lo slancio spontaneista, comportano comunque la creazione di istituzioni sovrane, pena il dissolvimento rapido dei tentativi e la possibilità di ulteriori “spontanee” malversazioni, come la stessa esperienza di Guardiagrele ha insegnato. Lo stesso regime di “signoraggio”, denunciato da Auriti, è un semplice aspetto, forse nemmeno il più importante, dell’esercizio del potere dei vari gruppi dominanti e dei conflitti che li attraversano
Apro una piccola parentesi su Grillo e il suo movimento, ho piu` di qualche riserva, non per il suo atteggiamento da commediante, come la maggior parte delle persone tendono a criticarlo, piuttosto per la sua, auto-definitasi, presa anti- sistema. Mi ricordo di quando Grillo andava in giro per l’Italia con i suoi spettacoli esprimendo la sua ammirazione per MoveOn.org (http://front.moveon.org/). Ora per chi non conosce quel movimento, secondo il SourceWatch, MoveOn.org è una organizzazione con “un sito web basato sull’organizzazione dell’ideologia liberale che raccoglie decine di milioni di dollari per i politici del Partito Democratico e per le loro cause. MoveOn mette insieme diversi sponsor e organizzazioni di difesa dei diritti umani; coalizioni diverse, quali gli Americani Contro La Guerra in Iraq (AAEI)(Solo quelle di Bush naturalmente…), la coalizione SavetheInternet.com e Win senza guerra. Moveon è stato uno dei maggiori contributori finanziari della campagna di Barack Obama nelle primarie del 2008 e del Partito Democratico per le politiche nel 2009.” (Http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=MoveOn ).
Tutto questo senza contare che la figura principale dietro moveon.org altro non è che George Soros, il creatore e motivatore di questa organizzazione. Grillo definì Moveon un “movimento straordinario”. Moveon è un portavoce di Soros e Obama e dell’intero apparato del partito democratico americano; non voglio addentrarmi in teorie del complotto o discutere la buona fede di Beppe Grillo, ma potete trarne le vostre conclusioni …
Ritornando a quello che sta succedendo in Grecia e in altri luoghi del mondo, dove le piccole comunità stanno lottando per riprendere il controllo di un diritto essenziale: la valuta del popolo non i soldi delle banche, forse questo è l’unico segno positivo, naturalmente ancora limitato e circoscritto, di questa orribile crisi monetaria ed economica mondiale. Quando la gente finisce di credere alle fandonie, inevitabilmente gli dèi sono destinare a cadere. Speriamo il più presto possibile.
